If there was ever a country that had it all, Peru is it… and we love the place!

The ‘Land of the Incas’ does not disappoint on any level, so there is something for everyone here.  Since first visiting nealy ten years ago Peru still has a hold on us, and it’s a place we do not hesitate in returning to when we have the chance.  With so much to see you can easily spend months there, in fact we did!

When to go

Due to the size of Peru different climates exist depending on where you choose to go.  This makes Peru a great destination any time of the year.  If you time your visit with one of the major festivals such as Inti Raymi in June you are sure for a lifetime of memories, this time of year is very popular so you are advised to book early.

What to do

Peru is famous of course for the Inca Trail ending at the majestic complex at Machu Picchu, and if that was not enough there are a number of other amazing sites.  The mysterious Nazca Lines south of Lima will take your breath away, as will the pre-Inca site of Chan Chan to the north. The Colca Canyon in the South is as stunning as it is huge, with condors sweeping overhead you can’t help but be blown away.  Not forgetting of course the amazing Amazon River runs right through the country, giving scope for some truly awesome jungle experiences.

For a real off the beaten track adventure why not explore the recently discovered, and still being excavated, site of Choquequirao… a must see.

Language

Spanish is the official language spoken in Peru, there are also a number of indigenous languages spoken such as Quechua which is the ancient language of the Incas.

Money

The currency of Peru is the Neuvo Sol with foreign currency easily changed at either banks or casas do cambio.
